Social Distancing PSA: We have to work together on this, team. School facilities are not to be used at this time, and it's VERY important that you maintain actual distance from each other and avoid touching shared surfaces. As hard as this is -- we have to comply in order to bring an end to the need to socially distance ourselves sooner.
In addition to the workouts that we've sent along before and posted on earlier blog entries, here's another big list of at-home workouts/apps/websites. The focus need not be on doing any given workout exactly but rather on BEING ACTIVE, working up a sweat, blowing off some steam, gaining some mental calm and focus. We miss you and are just a phone call or email away. Stay well, and see you on the call tonight!

Tonight we are having Senior Night (Part One -- we hope to do something in person when this all ends)! Join our Zoom call at 7pm (check your email for the link) so we can celebrate our seniors together! Lansing T&F Seniors 2020
Welcome to Week Four of varsity track and field! Keep taking good care of yourself! Stay physically active, take time away from electronics and social media, get fresh air when you can, eat food that nourishes you, and keep a routine. I'm really proud of you; keep taking this one day at a time and stay in touch and connected. Important Notes:
Practices, Meets & Meetings Until further notice, all practices and meets are suspended at least through April 15. But you still have training options! See the attached workouts or use any of the options we sent last week (also posted to the blog on website). Team Virtual Events Check your email as well as the website: we will continue to have team events take place! We'll see you on Monday for Senior Night plus work on a relay montage and Saturday is another birthday.... stay tuned!!!! Keep in touch, Bobcats, and stay well!
NYSPHSAA put out a statement on spring sports yesterday (see here). The IAC track coordinators shared that they too are still working to adjust scheduling and remain flexible as much as the ever-changing situation allows. They are staying on top of planning to accommodate as many contests as possible. Obviously, a great deal remains unknown -- but know that those in charge are still working to make adjustments to plan for contests and to maintain optimism! Stay well and stay strong!
Update: The Section IV Athletics executive board also issued a statement including: "The NYSPHSAA will decide whether the 2020 Spring State Championships will take place by April 27. Once schools are back in session, the focus will be on regular-season play for spring sports, followed by league and sectional championships, if possible. Spring State Championships will be the last concern." Our athletic director, Matt Loveless, continues to advise us to take this season one day at a time. We cannot mandate that you train, but we strongly encourage that you stay active for your mental and physical well-being -- and remember that we have provided you with workout options you can do from home Hi all. We'll get through this together. One workout, one day at a time. Keep in touch. Share your photos and messages. Your coaches and your teammates are just a call/text/email away. It was a close battle between Team Yellow and Team Bobcats, with Yellow edging out Bobcats for the win: Team Yellow: 9033 points Team Bobcats: 8843 points Team Blue: 2911 points Photo montage on its way. Next Up: Thursday is Emmy & Siobhan's Birthday. We're hosting a virtual Birthday Baking Nailed It Competition. Because we're limited on supplies as we all stay at home, we're asking you to be both frugal and creative. Recreate one of these, or be creative and show us another original along with your version of something that makes us say "Nailed It!" Zoom call on Thursday from 4-5pm for reveal of your creations and voting! Check your email for the meeting link on Thursday morning!
Team (virtual) events coming your way tomorrow (Monday, 3/23) at 3:30-5pm and also on Thursday, 3/26 from 4-5pm. Set your alarm, mark your calendar -- just make sure you "join" us! (And no, this isn't April's bootcamp class -- get your workout in before or after!)
Check your email tomorrow (Monday) morning for more details. If you don't get a message by 9am, email me so I can get you the info. If you find yourself looking for a good book and also some inspiration, here are two of my favorites. (More to come in coming days!)
1.) Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold in the 1936 Olympics, by Daniel James Brown 2.) Wolfpack, by Abby Wambach If you are not receiving these emails and should be, please email Coach Becca ASAP! Also: please join Google Groups when you receive the email requesting you join the girls, boys, or parents group list, respectively. -------------------------------------------- Welcome to Week Three of varsity track and field! We've made it through a week at home. Tremendous kudos to those of you who are finding ways to stay physically and mentally active! It takes self-discipline, but you never regret working out (and stepping outside for some fresh air). Important Notes:
Practices, Meets & Meetings Until further notice, all practices and meets are suspended at least through April 12. But you still have training options! We will continue to send training plans to our athletes (see attached). We cannot mandate that athletes complete these workouts, and athletes should prioritize safety and wellness. We are sending training suggestions because we believe that a daily routine which includes physical activity is critical to staying well -- always, and especially in this unprecedented and challenging time. NOTE: Try to get outdoors TODAY while the weather looks good; it looks far less good tomorrow! Additional resources, to be used in combination with or in place of, the training we send:
Lap(top)s Under the Lights We managed to "see" each other via a Zoom call! Not the format we'd planned for, but so good to be "together" for an hour. THANK YOU to our donors. We are leaving our online giving link live. At this point, the athletes have decided to gift money to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and to the Lansing Lunchbox program. We'll be sending $250 checks to each organization; this leaves us with a healthy account to still meet our program needs when we all return. That said, if we continue to raise significant funds, we will carefully plan to ensure maximizing our athletes' experience with the program, and we will consider making a further gift to the Lansing Lunchbox program. Organizers of the Lunchbox program have indicated how very much they are in need of ongoing gifts; they are a program that budgets for summer months and now is serving even more families for a much longer period of time. We understand that families are having to evaluate their budgets at this moment, and we as a program are doing the same. Any and all gifts are greatly appreciated and will be used to further the development of our athletes, their teams, and their community. Team Virtual Events Check your email as well as the website: we will continue to have team events take place! The scavenger hunt was a blast -- more activities to come! Training Scrapbook We've set up a shared Google photo album; snap a photo before/during/after your workout and share it! If you're having trouble posting, send it to me and I'll get it up there. It's great motivation to know that your teammates are also training! Keep in touch, Bobcats, and stay well!
