Only qualified athletes will be invited to compete at the State Qualifier Meet. The top six finishers from the large and small school sectional scoring are automatically invited to compete. In addition, the following standards are used to determine who else will be invited to this meet: The leaderboard, as of 1/30/2020, can be found here. This leaderboard does not reflect this past weekend's performances. You can refer to the rankings on NY Milesplit here (be aware that this also may not be a complete performance list).
The coaches will be working with athletes this week and next to understand where they stand on the leaderboard and whether they will be invited to compete at the State Qualifier Meet. It is imperative that an athlete let us know ASAP if they are unable to attend the State Qualifier Meet. Athletes should not make assumptions about their chances to be invited and should discuss their standings with the coaches. Particularly in running events, it is not uncommon for athletes from much farther down the leaderboard to be invited depending on the number of athletes who drop from events. In order to advance to the State Meet/NYSPHSAA Championships (held at Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island on March 7), an athlete must finish 1st or 2nd OVERALL at the State Qualifier Meet. A third athlete will be invited to attend from the 300, 600, 1000, and 15/1600 as a member of the intersectional distance medley relay. A third entry also may be admitted if s/he is the next best finisher and has achieved a 3rd competitor standard: Open Meet to be held on Saturday, 2/1, at the Lusk Field House at SUNY Cortland. Bus leaves at 2:15pm. Events begin at 3:45ish. Also making the top ten lists for their events: Gwen Gisler (matches 4th best all-time in pole vault clearing 11-6) Kyle Reid (3rd best all-time in high jump clearing 5-8) |
