In no particular order, here are some of the most frequently asked questions related to Lansing Cross Country:
How far are the races?
Generally, modified races are between 1.25-1.75 miles long. Varsity courses range from 2.5-3.1 miles. All varsity championship courses are 3.1 miles (5K).
Do boys and girls race together?
Sometimes. At dual meets, it is common for modified boys and girls to run together. Varsity boys and girls might race together if the teams are small. Boys and girls, varsity and modified, all race separately at invitationals and championships.
Are meets or practices ever cancelled?
The short answer: almost never. Cross country is an all-weather sport, and unless there is thunder and lightning, runners can plan to compete in heat, rain, wind or snow!
What should an athlete wear for racing? For the full meet afternoon/day?
Layers! Athletes are allowed to wear anything they want UNDER their uniform (singlet and shorts). We expect athletes to wear a
shirt OVER their singlet all the way to the start line, so pack a short sleeve shirt on hot days, a long sleeve shirt on cold days, and
then every kind of layer on top of that. Like it says above: we're an all-weather sport!
