In no particular order, here are some of the most frequently asked questions related to Lansing Track & Field:
What events are contested?
Indoor track events include: 55m dash, 55m hurdles, 300m dash, 600m dash, 1000m run, 1500m or 1600m run, 3000m or

Outdoor track events include: 100m dash, 100m or 110m hurdles, 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, 1500m or 1600m run, 3000m or 3200m run. Outdoor relays events include 4x100m, 4x400m, 4x800m. Do boys and girls race together?
The boys and girls track and field teams travel to meets together, and boys and girls heats are alternated throughout the meet. Sometimes, if there are very few entries in an event, boys and girls will race at the same time (this tends to happen in the 1500 and 1600, 3000 and 3200, or 4x800 relays); however, the boys and girls are scored separately.
Are meets or practices ever cancelled?
The short answer: almost never. If the weather doesn't allow for outdoor practice, we adjust to work out indoors. Athletes should be prepared for all weather every day.
Is there practice on holidays, school breaks, and/or Saturdays?
During indoor track, our program schedule scales back. We generally just practice on Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri with limited practice during school breaks. During outdoor track, we expect athletes to be prepared to practice Mon-Sat throughout the season, including during school breaks.
What should an athlete wear for racing? For the full meet afternoon/day?
Layers! Athletes are allowed to wear longer layers UNDER their uniform (singlet and shorts). We recommend solid black top/bottom to ensure relay teams match. We expect athletes to wear a shirt OVER their singlet all the way to the start line, so pack a short sleeve shirt on hot days, a long sleeve shirt on cold days, and then every kind of layer on top of that. We also expect athletes to wear their singlet and/or a Lansing track & field shirt onto awards podiums.
