The 4x800 team of Trent Thibault '26, Thomas Wells '23, Stephen Geise '24, Thomas Stallone '23 went down the hill to the Dan Fravil Ithaca Relays on Friday night, looking for some stiff competition.  While the field quickly dropped away from the Bobcats, the four Lansing runners took full advantage of a fast track under the lights, dropping their season best by nearly 30 seconds, good enough for an overall win and a highly ranked provisional state qualifier mark.

Lansing then woke up early for a trip to the Moravia Relays where the weather cooperated enough to get some quality runs, jumps, and throws recorded.  Lansing girls came home with the overall title while the boys were runner-up by just under two points.  Photos from Karin Silva here.

Meet Highlights:

• Kristen Johnston '25 and Lulani Haslinger '23 tied the girls school record for the long jump relay with combined jumps of 31-3.75 inches! (Note that we are awaiting validation from meet director.)
• The girls sprint medley relay (400-200-200-800) of Evelyn Jackson '27, Vanessa Bell '24, Caoilainn Tully '25, Kinsley Jacobs '23) took first place.
• The girls 4x100 team of Raid Lyerla '25, Lulani Haslinger '23, Kristen Johnston '25 and Sarah O'Callaghan '23 was victorious in both the prelims and finals.
• The girls distance medley relay (800-400-1200-1600) of Elise Jackson '24, Elena Gaffney '24, Kathleen Sullivan '25, and Kinsley Jacobs '23 secured first place.
• The boys freshman/sophomore sprint medley relay of Nathaniel Ronsvalle '26, Liam Strang '26, Zayvion Davis '25, and Everett Lynch '26 was victorious.
• The girls throwers relay of Raid Lyerla '25, Kirida Irving '25, Sophie Scanlon '25, and Nicole Montague '23 took home first place.
• Asher Benson '25 was the overall individual winner of the boy shot put.
• Kristen Johnston '25 was the overall individual winner of the girls triple jump as well as the girls high jump.

Both the boys and girls teams were victorious at Union Springs against both Union Springs and Marathon, bringing their records to 6-0.

Meet Highlights:

• Xavier Smith '26 jumped to another record-setting mark, this time in the long jump: 18-5.75!  This is the best long jump by a 9th grader in Lansing program history.
• Lansing clinched overall wins in the boys and girls 4x800 relays, boys 110m hurdles, girls 100m hurdles, boys 100m dash, girls 1500m run, boys 1600m run, boys and girls 4x100 relays, boys 400m dash, boys and girls 400m hurdles, boys and girls 800m run, boys 200m run, boys 3200m run, boys and girls 4x400m relays, boys and girls triple jump, girls high jump, boys and girls long jump, boys and girls pole vault, and boys discus!

Some of our athletes made the trip to Johnson City for some great competition at the Square Deal Invitational.  While the persistent wind made for some challenging racing, it was a fantastic opportunity to face off against some of the same athletes with whom our Bobcats may encounter at Fast Times and state qualifiers.

Meet Highlights:

• Trent Thibault '26 added his name to our program history books once again.  The 8th grade record holder in the 3200, Trent was the meet runner-up in this event, running to a new personal best of 9:58.40 and earning 8 points for his team.
• Xavier Smith '26 continued to improve on his own 9th grade school record in the triple jump.  With a mark of 39' 6", he placed 3rd overall and earned 6 points for his team.
• Aiden Vooris '26 set a new 9th grade school record in the 400m dash with his time of 58.56 (the record was previously set by teammate Stephen Geise '24).
• Other point scorers for the boys included: Rowan Caldwell '23 who was runner-up in the long jump with a personal best mark of 20'5" and earned 8 points, Owen Emmick '24 who pole vaulted to a new personal best of 12-6, good enough for third place and 6 points, and Tom Stallone '23 who ran to a new personal best time of 2:07.95 for fourth place (4 points) in the 800m.
• Kinsley Jacobs '23 was runner-up in the girls 2000m steeplechase, earning 8 points for her team.  She also led off the 4x400m team that would place 5th and score 2 points; Kathleen Sullivan '25, Elena Gaffney '24, and Lulani Haslinger '23 were other members of this relay that dominated their heat and made their way into placing despite not racing head to head with the fastest seeds at the meet.
• Elena Gaffney also scored individually for the girls team with her 5th place finish in the 400m hurdles (2 points).

With small squads from each roster, the boys were able to tie with Binghamton for 8th place in a field of 21 teams while the girls were 17th of 22 teams.

Lansing drove down the road to Groton where both the boys and girls were victorious, ending the day with 4-0 records thus far as we are midway through the spring 2023 season.  Complete results here.

• Nathaniel Ronsvalle '26 set a new program record for best 400m hurdles by a 9th grade boy, running 1:08.2 and winning the event.

• Kenzie Hunter '25 was the overall winner of the girls 100m dash.

• The Lansing girls team won all three relays in the meet: (4x100: Lulani Haslinger '23, Kenzie Hunter '25, Sarah O'Callaghan '23, Raid Lyerla '25); 4x400: Lulani Haslinger '23, Elise Jackson '24, Elena Gaffney '24, Kelly Miller '25; 4x800: Loveta Geesey '23, Vanessa Bell '24, Abigail Silva '24, Abby Brown '24)
• The Lansing girls swept the pole vault with their 1st (Evie Jackson '27), 2nd (Elena Gaffney '24), and 3rd (Flynn Ivery '24) place finishes.
• Rowan Caldwell '23 won the boys 200m dash and triple jump.
• Trent Thibault '26 won the boys 3200m run and has the second best time in Section IV currently.
• The Lansing boys team won both the 4x400 relay (Rowan Caldwell '23, John Leshinski '23, Tom Stallone '23, Aiden Vooris '26) and the 4x800 relay (Stephen Geise '24, Tom Stallone '23, Trent Thibault '26, Everett Lynch '26).
• The Lansing boys swept the pole vault: Owen Emmick '24 (1st), Colin Tarbert '25 (2nd), Caden Sitts '24 (3rd).

Despite missing a majority of our athletes, Lansing girls took 2nd and the boys took 6th at the Marathon Spring Fling Invitational.  Complete results here.

Lansing hosted Whitney Point and Southern Cayuga at Sobus Field for our season opening meet.  A huge thank you to our parent volunteers and to everyone who came out to cheer on the athletes!

• Lansing girls win 149-3 over Whitney Point, 109-18 over Southern Cayuga
• Lansing boys win 149-3 over Whitney Point, 112-19 over Southern Cayuga
• Diggy Smith '27 set two program records: best outdoor high jump by an 8th grade boy and best 100m dash by an 8th grade boy
• Xavier Smith '26 set a program record for best triple jump by a 9th grade boy
• 83 personal records set across both rosters!
