Spring Track Starts MONDAY, 3/4

2/27/2019

It's snowing out -- but spring track starts on Monday (3/4)!  Whether it's a balmy 50 degrees or snowing sideways, we'll be getting our athletes ready for the outdoor track and field season.  Some important notes:
  • MANDATORY PARENT INFORMATION MEETING: Sunday, March 10 at 5:30pm in the HS Cafe.  This is our one chance to speak with all of you, and we feel that this opportunity to connect coaches with families as well as families with families is priceless.  Please make every effort to attend.
  • PAPERWORK NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED.  Athletes received their health paperwork from the school nurse when they signed up for outdoor track and they should have returned this paperwork to her.  IN ADDITION: families and athletes need to read and complete our team paperwork which can be found here.
  • FUNDRAISING: We will be holding Laps Under the Lights on Friday, March 15. This is one of two fundraisers that provides monies to the indoor and outdoor boys and girls track and field teams.  In other words, it serves a lot of athletes and we need it to be successful!  Please share this link widely and help your athlete to raise money to support our team.  Funds are used for travel meals, team t-shirts, state qualifier shirts or socks, team tents, replacement spikes, guest speakers, senior night, and team building activities.  THANK YOU for your support!
  • Please spend some time perusing this website as we work hard to keep as much information available to you here as possible.  If you have specific questions, please feel free to reach out directly to head girls coach Becca Lovenheim or head boys coach Matt Scheffler.

Section IV State Qualifiers RECAP

CONGRATULATIONS to our indoor track squad!  It has been a strong season -- and for two of them, it's not over yet!

Cat Zaloj is your 2019 Section IV Girls High Jump Champion!  Gwen Gisler is your 2019 Section IV Girls Pole Vault Champion!  Both girls will be representing Lansing and our section at the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on Saturday, March 2!

Dakota Edwards set a new school record with his final indoor long jump of his high school career, topping our history books with a leap of 20'11.5" and placing fourth in the event.

Also notable:
  • Dakota ran a season best in the 55m dash, finishing third overall and setting a new best time ever run by a senior Lansing boy in the event.
  • Sam matched his personal best in the 300m dash, placing 4th overall in the event and also tied Dakota for third in the 55m dash.
  • Ellie ran a new person best in the 55m hurdles and made finals, finishing 5th overall.
  • George made the finals in the 55m hurdles, placing 7th.
  • The boys 4x400 placed 6th overall.
  • Sirus jumped to a new personal best in the high jump and placed 6th overall.
  • Kiara placed 5th in the pole vault.

Kudos to all of our athletes who qualified to compete in this meet!

Lots of information is below.  You are welcome to do as much or as little of the suggested training we list here.  Some athletes like to have a few weeks of conditioning under their belts and are able to begin working out.  Others are still competing in another sport or juggling other commitments.

There is a place for everyone on this team, and we are committed to helping you to improve from whatever level of fitness or experience you bring to the first day of practice.

Be sure to reach out to the coaches or veteran athletes with any questions.

The file below includes suggested preseason training for novice, intermediate, and advanced/veteran athletes:
