To clarify: regional championships are off the table. But in cross country, we go straight from sectional championships to states, and there is still the possibility of a sectional championship.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and subsequent delay of the NYSPHSAA fall athletics season, the Lighthosue 5K & Fun Run will be VIRTUAL events this year. Please stay tuned for more details.
The NY Public High School Athletic Association has delayed the start of the 2020 fall athletics season and there will not be regional or state championships. At this time, the anticipated start date is September 21 (rather than August 24).
Obviously, this is not news that we hoped to hear. We miss you. However, this news does not change our resolve to continue to do the next right thing: stay healthy, active, and connected. We will continue with our weekly varsity zoom meetups, we will continue to send weekly emails and training suggestions, we will plan events as a team (virtually until we can be together in person), and when the time comes for us to run and compete as a team, we will be ready to seize that opportunity. We remain a team who will get through this together. As we receive more details and information, we will share it. Meanwhile: the Lansing Lighthouse 5K will be a virtual event this year. Our projected meet schedule will be restructured; stay tuned for an updated schedule when we have one. Stay strong and stay in touch, Bobcats! Coach Becca and Coach Eisenhut Summer training is well underway, and we are six weeks out from the projected start of the varsity season! Weekly emails are being sent every Sunday, and team meetups on Zoom are every Tuesday at 8pm. If you aren't receiving our weekly emails, please send a message to Coach Becca so you can be added to our mailing list!
First day of varsity practice is scheduled for August 24th. First day of modified practice is scheduled for September 10th. The Lansing Lighthouse 5K remains scheduled for August 29th. We're all waiting for more updates and promise to share them as soon as we are able! Meanwhile: keep doing the work that makes you proud and prepared! While the 2019-2020 school year didn't end as we'd all hoped, we are grateful to ESPN Ithaca for recognizing some of our program's outstanding performers and also want to say another big congratulations to our Class of 2020.
In June at ESPN Ithaca's Night of Champions, Gwen Gisler was recognized as Athlete of the Year for her outstanding performances on the soccer field and on the pole vault and long jump runways. Catalina Zaloj was recognized as the girls' indoor track athlete of the year for her excellence in hurdles and high jump. Catie Eisenhut, one of our most decorated distance runners in recent history, was recognized for her excellence in her other sport: as the girls' ice hockey athlete of the year. And Coach Becca Lovenheim was named girls cross county coach of the year. We are honored and grateful for the recognition and energy that ESPN Ithaca puts into covering our sport! We also want to say a special thank you again to our graduating seniors. We are so proud of all of you and will miss you! |
